Our Winter Show at the Barbican

Our Winter show at the Barbican finished a couple of weeks ago. It was one of the best yet, and we broke some of our sales records from previous years! Signs perhaps, that economic recovery really is happening?DJG Dec 2013 129 DJG Dec 2013 130

This year we trialled a new layout with our showcases. It worked! Customers seemed to like it too- it allowed us to bring them in to our sales area-here they could try pieces on in a calm, quiet and more private place.

Whilst we displayed and sold our work, a design and craft market, and a toy shop also took place in the run up to Christmas. The Barbican is putting it’s mark firmly on the map not only as a thriving arts centre, but also as a select Christmas shopping destination.

We had a full house with almost all of our members displaying their work, and, were privileged to have the work of our chosen six New Designers with us too. Their work complimented ours brilliantly and they all had a successful show. They are supported with mentors, bursaries, publicity, networking opportunities and on site training, as well as exhibiting and selling their own work alongside ours. We really enjoyed having them with us and it seems they did too- a snippet or two here from some thank you emails they sent us:

“I just wanted to say a huge thanks for inviting me to participate with DJG this winter.”

“It has been a great experience not only working at the Barbican but interacting with the other designers and customers.”

“It was a fantastic opportunity and a pleasure to be surrounded by such lovely work and talented people.”

Onwards and upwards then! Our next show will be in the summer, again at the Barbican-dates to be confirmed soon.
